Primer
I will debut this Stack with a short primer on game mechanics (meta game seems to be a bigger topic as mentioned by BTB and Cobie). Game mechanics help you understand what is going on.
In the next stack I’ll dive into what I think is a very promising part of the crypto sphere and explain some of the major mechanics at play in Richard Hearts crypto projects (HEX, PulseChain - a new L1, PulseX).

The Game
Life is like a game or maybe we really are in a simulation. Anyhow, there are rules by which the game is played.
Know the rules & their implications → you can play properly → you can win big
Game mechanics are a superset of the rules. Think of them as rules, unspoken rules, derivations or implications of the rules and circumstances in which the game is played.
In chess there are rules for the movement of pieces. A very good to know game mechanic is that seeing more moves in the future compared to your opponent will help you win (duuh!). Another chess game mechanic not known to many is the fact that you can exchange a pawn into any piece when it reaches the end of the board.
Some mechanics are obvious, while others may be more hidden.
Staking coins is a game mechanic in crypto. Depending on how that mechanism works, it can change the APY, security, end-of-stake payouts etc.
Crypto is the MMORPG of the century and as consequence, every coin, L1, you name it has its own set of game mechanics that can make them or brake them OR make you or brake you.
Stay tuned for the in depth articles where I will go into the mechanics of Richard Heart’s cryptos.
